@found_paintings is an ongoing documentation project shared via Instagram. The project was spurred by an interest in the wall as index and document, and in accidental (incidental) processes of signification. I had been looking at bits of wall like these for months, starting to paint them and then stopping, feeling that painting them was wrong, when I decided that they were already completed works. All I had to do was name them as such.

 

In addition to pointing at the wall's history, for me, the found paintings ask questions about authorship and intent, the nature of painting, and the painting's relationship to the wall.
